Aktualisiert: 30. Aug. 2022

If you've read a good crime or thriller novel, chances are you'll be familiar with how hard it can be to put one of these stories down. The suspense and action are always engrossing, which is why it is so exciting to see new releases in this genre. Luckily, the month of July brings us yet another entry into the crime and thriller world through Victor Methos' A Secret Witness.

About the Author

Victor Methos is an author of more than 50 bestselling books, including many in the crime and thriller genres such as A Killer's Wife and The Neon Lawyer. Many recognize Methos for the multiple awards he has been given, including the 2020 Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction for his book The Hallows, as well as a nomination for the Edgar Award for the best novel for his book A Gambler's Journey.

Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Methos knew from an early age that he wanted to be a lawyer when he grew up. At the same time, he was writing short stories and novels, with his first story in English written at age 10, one year after he emigrated to the United States.

Methos attended law school at the University of Utah and has enjoyed a successful career as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney, having worked on more than 100 trials ranging from civil liberties to criminal justice. His work as an attorney and prosecutor has dramatically influenced his book output, with one case directly influencing the story behind his best-selling The Neon Lawyer.

Book Synopsis

The Secret Witness is the first installment of the Shepard and Gray series and focuses on the investigations of a young sheriff and a former prosecutor who set out to stop a copycat killer.

This is Reaper speaking.

Thus begins the anonymous letter published in a Utah newspaper after the brutal murder of a young couple. It has been eight years since the serial killer calling himself Reaper has committed his last murders, but this fresh round of killings calls into question the killer's identity. Tooele County Sheriff Elizabeth Gray is in charge of investigating this eerily familiar new case, but after the note leads detectives to a new body, she calls for help from her old friend.

Solomon Shepard is a former prosecutor trying to recover from the courtroom attack that stopped his career in its tracks. But, at Gray's urging, he decides to tackle this new case with her, leading the two to begin their investigation to unravel the unhinged plots of a copycat killer.

The Secret Witness has elements of classic mysteries such as G. M. Malliet's Augusta Hawke series, as well as the more suspenseful action of Ava Strong's Dakota Steele series. Filled with anticipation from start to finish, fans of both classic detective stories and action-packed legal thrillers will love this new series from Victor Methos.
